Glinda took a moment as she prepared herself for vulnerability, "I lost my father after spending four-thousand years with him. We survived the rise of Christianity, the invasion of our homeland, the devastation of the Fae, puritanical witch trials, and modern-day late-stage capitalism. Magical beings are blessed with long life spans, but even we are not immortal. After ten thousand years of life, my father passed on to the Fae Shadow Lands. This paper passed down to me. That is all real."
Her eyes filled with sincerity, Glinda continued. "When I learned who you were, I started researching your work and was impressed by the compassion you showed with only 200-400 words. I sought you out because Mystic Falls does not leave our magical siblings behind, but I hired you on the basis of your talent alone."
I needed to sit. I dropped Glinda's hands, walking back over to my chair and sat, slouched, trying to process yet more unexpected information. I searched for my birth parents when I was in my early twenties, but hit a dead end. It wasn't like I hadn't tried to find out about my past. I had given up on finding my family or even figuring out what my birth name was. My eyes felt like they wanted to cry, but I didn't know where to even start. When I thought I would burst into tears, I burst into laughter instead, "This is fucking crazy. If I wasn't sure all this was real, I would think I had lost my mind or that I was being punked."
Glinda stared at me like I had two heads, "I'm sorry, that was not the reaction I expected. Are you well, Sarah?"
I took a deep sigh matched with a torn grunt, "UGH! Yes! No! Does it matter? Crying won't do anything but give me a headache, so all that leaves is laughing at the sheer absurdity of the situation. It's like I'm trapped in some cliché cozy witch novel, but I'm not. It's real. So, I'm as good as possible considering you're telling me you have a breadcrumb to a history I gave up on when I was twenty-two."
Glinda walked over to my chair, placing her hand gently on my back, "We will discuss this later, but you need to know, you aren't alone anymore."
Her words penetrated my panic, and it felt like my grandmother was telling me everything would be okay. I was still so inexplicably mad, but Glinda was right. We were magical family, and that wasn't something I wanted to lose, "Fine. We will table this until after we potentially save the world." I waved indiscriminately between her and me, "This will, for sure, be a conversation later. We've got bigger fish to fry right now."
Glinda gave me a smile and returned to her chair, sitting pointedly, "Tell me precisely what drove you to panic. Tell me about this prophecy."
My head rolled backward and then forward into my hands. I released a tense breath, then sat up, "Zara had a prophecy today while I was at Sugar & Spice.
